Qarabag Achieves Consecutive UEFA Champions League Wins
(MENAFN) Azerbaijani football club Qarabag achieved a historic milestone on Wednesday by becoming the first team from Azerbaijan to secure back-to-back victories in the UEFA Champions League group stage. This feat was accomplished following a 2-0 home win against Copenhagen.
This success came just a week after Qarabag's groundbreaking 3-2 away triumph over the Portuguese powerhouse Benfica on September 16 — marking the club’s inaugural Champions League group stage win.
With these two consecutive victories, Qarabag currently holds 6th position with 6 points in the group phase and is quickly becoming one of the most unexpected stories of the competition.
Their upcoming challenge is an away match against Spain’s Athletic Bilbao in the third week of the group stage.
Qarabag reached the UEFA Champions League group stage by advancing through three qualifying rounds, having won five out of six matches, netting 15 goals and conceding only five.
During the second qualifying round, the Azerbaijani side defeated Ireland’s Shelbourne 3-0 in the first leg away and followed up with a 1-0 victory at home, securing their place in the next qualifying stage.
